GOT PARTS?

Spare Parts collects pre-loved prosthetics from anywhere and everywhere, anyone and everyone.

For the 2010 exhibition the prosthetics came from all across Australia, America and Laos. We match the prosthetic up with an artist who uses it as their canvas. It’s a great way for old parts to live on, and have a second life after they are no longer needed.

The prosthetics are donated by amputees, families of amputees, prosthetic clinics, support groups and hospitals.

In 2012 we have collected prosthetics from Australia, America and the United Kingdom. But we still need more.

These are the types of prosthetics we are now looking for:

• Arms, hands, hooks –  from any country
• Above knee legs in the UK only
• Below knee legs – from any country
• I’d also like some full cosmetic shaped below knee legs with a resin/ wooden cover, from Australia only.
• One below knee leg with socket/shaft only in a good condition (this one has a special purpose!), from the UK preferably.
• Eyes are very welcome. All styles, and from any country.

If the foot is busted that is ok, we have other feet we can replace them with! If the arm is missing its hand or hook that is ok too! If you’re not sure about the condition just send a photo in first (take a snap on your phone, nothing fancy is needed!) and we can go from there. In 2010 we had limbs that has been in the shed since the 70s, and even one with the foot partially eaten away at! They all went on to be amazing works of art.

People often ask if we are interested in other prosthetics, like noses, ears or (external) breasts, and the answer is YES! If you have one let us know! But so far we have not come across any. They have to be pre-loved in the every day sense, not pre-loved from the set of a movie.

We will be blogging the donated prosthetics, and we love to include the story of where it came from, and where possible, a photo of the original owner. It helps build the story of Spare Parts, and create an open and positive conversation about prosthetics.

It’s a permanent donation. We help with collection or postage to get the limbs to us as well.
